After the recent wave of fires, firefighters are now going door to door in South Park with “Arson Alert” flyers.
We got a tip about this today and confirmed it with Seattle Fire Department spokesperson Kyle Moore.
Moore says firefighters started distributing the flyers last night, and will be out again tonight.
He notes:
Since January, there have been more than an average number of fires in the South Park neighborhood, including a couple of fires in abandoned or vacant homes.
The most recent fire at an abandoned home on Monday night at 314 South Trenton Street is currently under investigation by both SFD and SPD.
On August 23rd, a fire at a vacant home on 731 South Sullivan Street was ruled an arson.
As a proactive measure, the Seattle Fire Department wants to raise awareness among residents and businesses and give them some simple things they can do to clean up and secure any items on their properties that could be used to start a fire
Last night, Firefighters from Engine Company 11 and Engine Company 26 canvassed more than a 10 block area and contacted 124 people with the flyers. Tonight, the firefighters will continue to go door-to-door with the flyers.
The flyers include information on how to make your home/business less attractive to an arsonist and also mention the hotline for information related to arson: 1-800-55-ARSON.
Moore provided them to TSPN so you can download them:
