Update: Business fire damage estimated at $1 million

ORIGINAL 10:03 AM UPDATE: Seattle Fire is on the scene in the 500 block of South Monroe (map). The address on the fire logs checks to a business, Mechanical Agents (whose website says they deal in fire-protection products, among other things). More to come.

10:52 AM UPDATE: Our crew talked with SFD spokesperson Kyle Moore at the scene. Many of the units have been dismissed, but a few are still there. He says this first came in as a “fire on the roof” call but it may have started inside – investigators are still figuring it out. SFD is familiar with the building since some of the work inside involves flammable materials, which requires inspection, but the crews got there in time to keep the fire from getting anywhere near those materials, and they were able to knock it down. No injuries reported. They’ll have information later on cause and damage estimate.

2:58 PM UPDATE: SFD estimates damage from this fire at $1 million, and has determined it to be accidental – blamed on an exhaust vent. More details on their Fire Line site.

Hello, Is there a way to post the time of your posts along with the date? Thanks!

Haven’t figured it out yet. Should be an automatic feature but for some reason it’s not working. This is a working fire right now, 10:17 am as I post this comment. We have a crew en route and will publish updates (which I will manually write times for, as we do on our other sites) … TR
