(UPDATED SATURDAY with photo of burned boat)
10:57 PM: From the scanner: Seattle Fire crews are at the scene of what’s described as a “fully involved boat fire” in the 8600 block of Dallas Avenue South. More as we get it.
11:22 PM: We’ve arrived near the scene. Crews are reported to be here from Seattle, North Highline, and Tukwila; the fire itself is believed to be in the unincorporated area. A boom is being placed around the boat that caught fire. If you’re in the business district, you can see the huge number of emergency lights on Cloverdale just east of 14th.
11:42 PM: The fire is now under control – just some hot spots. No injuries; nobody was on board; it’ll be a while before we know how it started. Lt. Sue Stangl from SFD briefed media, including us. She said the boat burned down to the water line and that crews described it as a 30-foot pleasure craft. Hear our interview here. And she had major praise for South Park’s Engine 26 crew, who had a difficult job to get a line out to the boat at the end of a dock. They were in the process of handing the scene over to the county when we left.
ADDED SATURDAY: Here’s the burned boat, the “Silly Goose” from Craig, Alaska:
When we got to the dock on Saturday afternoon, we discovered it had already been removed from the water and was on a trailer; others at the marina confirmed it was the boat involved in the Friday night fire.
